This is my most asked after recipe, I make this in bulk (this recipe make 3 loaves) slice and freeze so we just have to pull it out of the freezer and defrost or pop into the toaster, Yummy!!! You can eat this bread knowing exactly whats in it, ONLY 5 ingredients, no nasties.

This bread is so full of fibre 2 slices fills you up.

This is my personal TREAT food, I will have it with vegemite, or Pumpkin soup or avocado, tomato, onion and salt and pepper.

Total: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Prep: 30 minutes
Serves: 3 loaves


  • DRY
  • 7 to 10 cup Whole Grain Flour (Stone Ground if you are able to get it)
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • WET
  • 5 cup warm water
  • 2/3 cup apple sauce
  • 7 to 8 teaspoons yeast


  1. Pre heat oven to 190 Fan Forced
  2. Line bread tins with baking paper
  3. Prepare yeast mixture first;
  4. Combine warm water, apple sauce and finally yeast
  5. Whisk until you get a froth
  6. Set aside for 10 min
  7. Combine whole grain flour and salt
  8. Stir through with hand to mix throughly
  9. When yeast mixture become frothy (it MUST have a good froth on top, otherwise your yeast may not be any good or you may need to add more yeast)
  10. Once you have the frothy yeast mixture add it to the flour and salt
  11. Mix through with your hands (best tools you have)
  12. Mixture should be sticky, but not too sticky that it's stuck all over your hands, you should still have a solid but wet dough (you can watch me on UTube if you need more)
  13. Set aside for 30 mins to allow the bread to raise
  14. Bread should have risen to at least double the size
  15. Pop into the oven for 30 to 45 mins @ 190*
  16. Bread is ready when you knock on it and it sounds hollow and is slightly browned on the outside.


Yeast mixture must be frothy onto, if not your yeast may be no good or you may need to add more yeast.
