Ingredients

  • Barley

Instructions

  1. The ratio of water to barley is 3 cups water for every 1 cup of barley
  2. 1 cup of un-soaked barley, you would add 3 cups of water to cooking
  3. Over high heat, bring the soaked barley and water, uncovered, to a boil
  4. Cover, and reduce to low heat
  5. Allow the grain to simmer for 45 minutes
  6. Do not add salt until AFTER it is cooked, since it can block absorption of water
  7. Once cooked, it will always retain some chewiness, much more than rice!
  8. You'll know your boiled barley is done when 20 percent of them have burst open and it is chewable.
