AUTHENTIC DHAL (Basic Curry)

AUTHENTIC DHAL (Basic Curry)

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds (optional)
  • 1-6 chopped onions (the more the sweeter)
  • 1 tbsp garlic
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • ½ chilli chopped (optional depending on how spicy your like it)
  • 2-3 tbsp garam masala (depending on how spicy you like it)
  • 1 tbsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1-2 tsp salt
  • 1-6 chopped tomato or 1-2 tins 400g canned tomato’s
  • 6 cups lentils, rinsed and soaked over night

Instructions

  1. Heat pan add oil if using OR (water if oil free)
  2. Fry cumin seeds 1-2 mins, stir till darker, careful not to burn
  3. Add mustard seeds, same as above
  4. Add onions, saute inion for 10 min to 20 mins. (The longer you saute the taster they will become)
  5. Add drainer lentils stir in, add water or homemade stock to completely cover
  6. Bring to the boil, then simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally so they do not burn, cook until lentils are soft, OR pop into pressure cooker
  7. This recipe is my basic base to all of my curries, I just change it up by changing the things I add to it, coconut cream for a yummy coconut flavor, more chilli if you like it spicy

add any of the following (optional) Coconut cream Chopped spinach Kidney or black beans Potato’s Roasted pumpkin or sweet potato Peas Really you can add what every you have handy
